Number 2 – Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Dropping 13 stories in an elevator shaft — that overlooks the park. Unpredictable fall sequence prevents comfort zone. Outstanding theming of old hotel runs throughout.

Number 3 – Manta at SeaWorld Orlando. Ray-themed roller coaster puts passengers in a head-first flying position for soaring over the park. Beware the back row and the G’s pulled in the first loop.

Number 4 – Kraken, SeaWorld Orlando. Roller coaster with just enough hills, rolls, loops, and corkscrews to thrill. Just short enough to keep your stomach where it belongs.

Number 5 – The Haunted Mansion, Magic Kingdom. Classic dark ride with winning pre-show and soundtrack was revised in 2007 to include new staircase room, bride-in-attic storyline and other enhancements.

Number 6 – Dueling Dragons, Islands of Adventure. Intertwined inverted coasters Fire and Ice — they’re not identical — roll through near-misses with one another.

Number 7 – Incredible Hulk Coaster, Islands of Adventure. After its shocking launch sequence, the groaning green machine severely rattles your insides.

Number 8 – Soarin’, Epcot. Tiered passengers dangle in front of a gigantic screen, appear to float over various California scenes. It’s like a great group hang-glide.

Number 9 – Toy Story Mania, Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Ride that’s a series of 3-D video games featuring Pixar characters. Toys are oversized throughout, including a Mr. Potato Head animatronic that hold court in the queue.

Number 10 – Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios. Coaster includes onboard soundtrack, a dramatic and twisty drop-and-loop combo and a trip through the New York street scene set.

Number 11 – Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Aerosmith-inspired enclosed coaster rocks and rolls over through a darkened Hollywood scene, all to a blaring soundtrack, in a “super stretch limo.”

Number 12 – Journey to Atlantis, SeaWorld Orlando. It’s a water ride! It’s a coaster! No, now it’s a water ride! It’s really both — tricky. (Also: Note the post-ride aquarium area of gift shop).

Number 13 – Expedition Everest, Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Smooth indoor-outdoor roller-coaster earns points for theming, dark backward sequence and enormous Yeti animatronic.

Number 14 – The Simpsons Ride, Universal Studios. Disorienting simulator romps through Springfield and incorporates many characters and locations from the long-running animated series.

Number 15 – Jurassic Park River Adventure, Islands of Adventure. Water ride that goes awry when dinosaurs cut loose. Recovery from major splash assisted by well-timed, familiar soundtrack from movie.
